Local Ministries You Can Help

Help Reach the World - Share Christ’s Love with an International Student!  Over 1000 new international students have just arrived to study at City College and UCSB.  They are “the brightest and best” from their countries and will return to their countries to excel in business, government, education, military, or science.  Please share the love of Jesus with a student from another country by becoming an ISI Friendship Partner or helping in other ways.  Contact Tim Notehelfer at tnotehelfer@isiwebnet.net or 967-2671 x110.

MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) -  Anyone interested in joining MOPS?  MOPS stands for Mother's Of Pre-Schoolers and invites women of all faiths and places in life to come and be supported by other mom's. Pick up a registration form in the back at church and mail it in as soon as possible!  If you have any questions, please contact Krista Knoles 683-1833 or Jenn Clark 967-3070.  Also, if anyone is interested in helping Goleta MOPS, we are in need of "Aunties" to come and hold babies or teach pre-schoolers every other Friday!  This is a great opportunity to serve mothers during busy times in their lives AND to be with cute kids!

Life Network - Life Network (dba Network Medical) is a local non-profit medical clinic and the only faith-based ministry of its kind in the south county.  Their mission is to erase the need for abortion by transforming a woman’s fear into confidence to the honor of Jesus Christ. Volunteers are always needed and welcomed. For a list of the new opportunities visit ‘How to Help’ on the donor site, or to learn more visit:  www.friendsoflifenetwork.com. Our patient site is: networkmedical.org

Goleta Homework Club - Serving Old Town Goleta children through homework help and mentorship, is beginning again on Thurs., Sept. 29.  Volunteer leaders are needed!  G.H.C. meets each Thursday afternoon from 3:45 – 5:00 p.m. We are looking for adult mentors who are able to commit to regular Thursday participation for an entire school year.  Please contact Krista Beard at 683-6805 or e-mail if you are at all interested in becoming a mentor and/or for more information.

Westside Kids Club - We need leaders who love kids and can volunteer two or three times a month. We need people who can lead games, design crafts, organize snacks, lead worship and small groups, teach a bible story and pray for the ministry. If you're  interested please contact Michelle Acker at (909) 938-1021.

Moms In Touch: Moms in Touch is for moms with the heart to pray for their children and their schools. In MIT prayer groups, moms learn to pray specifically and scripturally for their children, principals, teachers and school events. Small groups pray confidentially using a 4-step prayer method: praise, silent confession, thanksgiving and intercession.  If you'd like to find out whether your child's school has a MIT prayer group, or if you are interested in starting one for your school, contact Area Coordinator Lisa Maraszek, 683-2785 or at lmaraszsek@cox.net. Visit our website: www.momsintouch.org.

InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at UCSB:  InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA is a vibrant campus ministry that establishes and advances witnessing communities of students and faculty. We minister to students and faculty through small group Bible studies, large gatherings on campus, leadership training, thoughtful discipleship and life-changing conferences and events.  You can visit IVCF at www.ucsbiv.com and UCSB InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (on Facebook).  For more information, or to get involved, contact Paul Benthin, InterVarsity Minister at UCSB, paulbenthin@gmail.com, 702-301-8717.

Campus Crusade for Christ @ UCSB: UCSBMOVEMENT is a movement of students and staff who desire to see every student from every background, culture, and community experience the love and life of Jesus.  Therefore, UCSBMOVEMENT is always seeking to have a presence in every nook and cranny on campus.  Through things like evangelism, discipleship, Bible study, and stateside and international mission trips, we desire to raise up student leaders to go back into their communities and cultures to be a living example of who Jesus is and what he came to do.  From this vision and hope come 7 different movements that make up UCSBMOVEMENT.  Check us out at UCSBMOVEMENT.com.  For more information or to get involved, contact Jeff Wood (full-time staff at UCSB), e-mail, (805) 674-6544.

Young Life goes into the world of kids, crossing barriers to build bridges of authentic friendship. Young Life is a world-class organization for adolescents. Our staff and volunteers enter the world of kids, focusing on what maters to them--fun, adventure, friendship, and a sense of significance. In doing so, we earn the privilege of talking to them about God and His love for them. We are in need of volunteers to both help work with teenagers and those who can support our volunteer teams. For information about our junior high and high school gatherings please check santabarbara.younglife.org or contact Tanita Maddox at tanita@santabarbara.younglife.org.

Habitat for Humanity of Southern Santa Barbara is a nonprofit Christian housing organization whose mission is to build simple, decent, and affordable homes in partnership with low-income families in our community. In addition to the homebuilding program Habitat offers “A Brush with Kindness”, a program that provides exterior home repairs to low-income homeowners, and operates the ReStore in Goleta. For further details on all programs, hours, and location, please visit www.sbhabitat.org. For more information, or to get involved, contact Alex Ramstrum, Development Manager, at e-mail 805-692-2226.
